Great results for Alanis

This summer Year 12 student Alanis was selected to represent the North at the U18 National Championships at Frickley Park. Alanis talks about her amazing experience below:

“We were delighted to get our place on the team confirmed in June. We then went onto a specific training programme with the British Eventing U18 coaches which consisted of numerous training sessions and a dedicated two day camp.

The Championships are held over five days. The first day was for settling into the site and stables. Day 2 everyone had to trot up in front on the ground jury and vets and half the class did their dressage. Day 3 the second half of the class did their dressage. Day 4 was cross country. Day 5 there was a second trot up again in front of the ground jury and vets followed by show jumping.

We passed the trot up on Thursday morning and as we were in the first half of the class we did our dressage on the hottest day of the year. She did a nice test for a score of 35, which I was pleased with as the atmosphere was quite overwhelming for a young horse.

On Saturday morning we set out on the most challenging cross country course either of us had ever done and we came home clear inside the time.

She passed the second trot up on Sunday morning and we were scheduled to show jump late morning. Maybell did a lovely foot perfect clear round to finish on her dressage score of 35. This wasn't enough for an individual placing but we finished 23rd out of 80 starters which I was really happy with. However, the Northern team as a whole did extremely well and we had a podium finish for 3rd place.

This was such an amazing experience and now we are making the step up and working towards selection again but for the 2* team for the National Championships which will be held at Bishop Burton in July 2020.”
