Extra Curricular Activities

We encourage girls to develop their interests and skills, try new experiences and pursue their passions.  We see this as a key part of education here at Wakefield Girls for developing confidence, outlook and perspective - and, most importantly, for fun and friendships at school.

We provide a wide range of valuable extra curricular activities and opportunities for all girls. Our varied programme includes music, drama and sport as well as clubs to extend academic interests and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.  Most take place during lunch time or after school.

Please find a complete listing of all Extra Curricular Activites for all students at the top right of this page.

Girls are offered a varied choice of musical groups to join.  Our music offering includes junior and senior concert bands, orchestra, brass band, wind band, swing band, string quartet, electric ensemble and many other musical groups for specific instruments. Singers can join a range of choirs and vocal groups.  We have regular concerts taking place throughout the school year in school as well as in the beautiful Wakefield Cathedral.

Wakefield girls are comfortable on stage and have opportunities to regularly perform in dance showcases, drama performances and musicals. We have an annual production highlight, recently The Little Shop of Horrors, with opportunities for every girl to participate whether that is on stage or back stage, learning about stage management, light, sound and developing technical skills.

Whether a beginner or competitive athlete, we encourage Wakefield Girls interest in sports and offer many sporting teams and activities.  Our popular teams include Netball, Hockey, Indoor Cricket and Badminton.  Competitive matches are arranged with other local schools as well as entering teams in regional and national competitions. We also run a PE Clinic.

We offer a variety of clubs and societies to enable and encourage girls to further explore, stretch and develop their academic interests. This includes Languages, Maths, Sciences, Engineering, Religion, Philosophy and Ethics. We also provide Geography and Environmental Pressure, Art, History, Classics, Greek and Debating Clubs.
