Ethos of the Department

The ethos of the Physical Education Department is to contribute towards the overall balance and development of our girls in terms of their personal, social and physical attributes. We aim to encourage healthy living and healthy lifestyle and place importance on sporting involvement and physical activity throughout a girls’ school career. Through these skills they should develop positive attitudes and foster self esteem through an understanding of their personal capabilities and limitations.

Key Facts

  • Facilities include a Fitness Suite, Astroturf, netball/tennis courts, indoor sports hall, gymnasium and athletics track
  • Girls are taught a wide range of activities from traditional sports (hockey and netball) to trampolining and self defence
  • WGHS is successful at county, regional and national level whilst ensuring sport for all levels and abilities
  • The Department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities both at lunchtime and after school
  • Exclusive use of a Hockey and Netball coach
  • Sports' Tour every three years
