Competitive Sport

School teams regularly enjoy outstanding success in all sport and there are plenty of opportunities for girls to represent WGHS in sport.

A large number of girls represent the school in Netball, Hockey, Swimming, Tennis and Athletics. There are A and B team squads in the major competitive sports and from the squads, teams of girls are selected to play against other local schools and also in tournaments and festivals, including IAPS events (Independent Association of Prep Schools). The girls also benefit from squad practises, either during the school day or after school.

The U11 hockey team regularly reaches the National Mini Hockey Finals, and has achieved Champion status in recent years. All girls age 4 to 11 years take part in the Annual Sports Day - popular and fun afternoons, enjoyed by pupils and parents alike. For the older girls, the event is held on the QEGS Senior School athletics track, with cups and certificates awarded to the competitors who win events.

Girls are also given the opportunity to go to watch professional sports events such as International Netball fixtures and Wimbledon. In addition, some years we are able to offer a ski trip. These opportunities not only provide memorable experiences but enrich girls’ appreciation and enjoyment of sport.
