Sporting Ethos

Sporting opportunities exist both within and outside of the curriculum for all ages, interests and abilities.

With excellent coaching and impressive sports facilities, QEGS has an enviable reputation for sporting excellence with individual and team successes ranging from county to national honours.

Sport is an integral part of school life and the school aims to promote enjoyment and satisfaction. Pupils are nurtured and encouraged to achieve their potential.

All boys have the opportunity to the play competitive fixtures, with over half the boys in school representing QEGS each academic year, from which they derive huge benefit in terms of both personal development and enjoyment.

Rugby, Hockey and Cross-Country are the major sports played during the first two terms with Cricket, Athletics and Tennis being the major focus during the summer term. QEGS is able to run A and B teams in many of these sports, which are supported by Academic Staff outside of the PE Department.

Numerous representative honours are gained each year at county, regional and national level in the major sports. The PE Department recognise that many boys play sports out of school, and positive links are actively encouraged with clubs in all sports.

Sports tours are inclusive and take teams of different ages each year to meet the challenges of overseas opponents.
