Ethos of the Department

There is a long musical tradition at QEGS that is based on enjoyment and excellence in equal measure. Practical music-making is at the heart of the Department’s ethos and boys are encouraged to aim for the highest standards in individual music lessons and extra-curricular group work.

In curriculum lessons, boys engage in composing, listening and performing activities that are both stimulating and challenging. Tasks vary between individual and group activities and boys are encouraged to develop independent thinking and citizenship skills which can better equip them for later life.

The Department values all of its musicians, ensuring that the achievements of older boys help to inspire the next generation of boys in school. The Department takes every opportunity to share its work with the wider community in tours, concerts and music festivals.
