The sporting ethos at WGHS is very much 'Sport for All'.
Girls are encouraged to take part in school sport to nurture both teamwork and individual skills, instilling an enjoyment and appreciation of sport for life.
There is a sport for every girl to enjoy:
Aerobics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cheerleading, Cricket, Cross Country, Dance, Golf, Gymnastics, Health-related Fitness, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rugby League, Self Defence, Squash,Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Trampolining and Yoga.
The school has an indoor sports hall, tennis courts, a sports pavilion, playing fields, gymnasium and fitness suite. In addition, there is an Astroturf and athletics track shared with QEGS. All sports facilities are located within walking distance of the school.
Sports Day involves the majority of girls from Years 7 to 10 taking part in traditional sports day races, whilst Year 11 girls enjoy a more 'light hearted' sports event before GCSEs with obstacle courses and races.
Every three years, there is a major overseas sports tour.Since 1992 we have toured Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Excellence is achieved by teams and individuals with much success in local, regional and national competitions. Many girls gain prestigious representative honours each year in their sport, ranging from County to National level.
