Drama

Drama is an enriching part of WGHS life, with a thriving extra-curricular drama programme which extends and complements work undertaken within the curriculum for girls of all ages.

Lessons and clubs are centred in the purpose built Drama Studio with lighting rigs, prop/costume storage, and changing facilities, which is located within the Creative Arts Centre. Years 7 to 9 enjoy timetabled Drama every fortnight. Drama at GCSE is taught in groups based in the Drama Studio. At A-Level, Drama is taught jointly with QEGS using facilities both at WGHS and QEGS.

Lunchtime Drama Clubs run for Years 7 to 9, with outcomes such as mini-pantos and mask work performance. In the Summer Term, the Year 7-9 Drama Competition is a very popular event, well attended by parents and staff who enjoy high-quality writing and performing. There are opportunities for girls wanting to be involved in other aspects of Drama, including the Sound and Lighting Team (SALT) and Stage Management, allowing other skills and technical aspects of performance to be experienced.

Excellent Lower and Senior School productions take place jointly with QEGS each year. Recent stunning productions include ‘A Blood Wedding’, ‘Anything Goes’ and ‘Tales from a Small Island’.
