Wakefield Girls’ High School

Drama

Drama is actively encouraged at WGHS JS with many performance opportunities during the course of the school year.

As well as being great fun, taking part in drama develops confidence, co-operation, imagination and physical co-ordination, as well as speaking and listening skills.

All year groups from Reception upwards take to the stage during the year, whether in a nativity production, year group play or musical production giving every girl the opportunity to shine by experiencing the fun and thrill of performing for an audience. Younger girls from Reception to Year 2 take part in Music and Movement sessions each week, which encourage freedom of movement and expression. In Year 2 girls can take part in the extra-curricular Dance and Drama Club.

In Year 6 girls can take part in the Drama Club held in the Senior School Drama Studio. This provides an introduction to all aspects of drama including mime, role play and working with music: thereby developing confidence in performance. By the age of 11, girls have become very competent and confident performers and the Year 6 summer production is the pinnacle of the girls’ Junior School drama career involving the entire year group, ably supported by the Year 5 chorus.
