Wakefield Girls’ High School

House System

An important part of the school community is the House system.

Upon entering Reception girls belong to one of the four houses - Barff, Lee, Mackay and Newstead, named after the families who either owned the land on which the school is built or lived in St. John's House.

Inter-house competitions take place throughout the year, fostering healthy competition. Girls take great pride in belonging to a House, and achieving House Stars are exciting targets for girls. These are awared for academic and social effort. Each term, the Inter-House Cup is awarded to the House with the most stars. There is also an Individual Star Cup.

Year 6 girls hold the positions of House Captains - one of the many leadership opportunities on offer in the school.
