Mulberry House [Boys and Girls 3-7]

Tuesday 07 February, 2012

Many of our parents are actively involved in the life of the school! ‘Friends of St. John’s House’ – FOSJH, is the parents teachers’ association, providing an opportunity for friendly and cooperative contact between school and parents.

FOSJH holds a variety of social events through out the school year. Each year events are arranged for parents, for children and for the whole family. The funds raised at these events are used to purchase items for the school. This year funds have been used to lay new soft play surfaces on the Mulberry House playgrounds.

The FOSJH committee usually meets once each half term and is always happy for new members and ideas to be put forward.

If you would like any further information about FOSJH please contact the Chair, Debbie Wilson, or speak to your child’s teacher to find out about other contacts.

2010/11 Events

Future Events

Future events include a Quiz Night to be held on Friday 18th March.  This event will provide a social opportunity for parents to get together in school and compete for the prize of being Quiz Champions.  Liquid refreshments will be available along with pie and peas by Charlesworths of Horbury.

The Easter Egg and Cake Sale on 20th April, 2011 is held in the Hartley Pavilion and girls are offered the opportunity to buy cakes and eggs – likewise any parents/friends who are at school for pick up at the end of the school day are warmly encouraged to support this event.  Obviously all contributions of cakes and eggs are very welcome to make this a financial success.  We also hope to offer Nearly New Uniform for sale.

Other recent successful fundraisers have included the popular 2011 School Photo Calendar which raised £480.00 and the Christmas Raffle which raised £337.00.

Nearly New Uniform

FOSJH is always grateful for donations of school uniform which can be re-sold to parents – raising funds for FOSJH.  Items are collected throughout the year, with an emphasis on collecting in advance of the sale dates (usually Easter Egg and Cake Sale, Transition Day and Family Fun Morning.)

Family Fun Morning, Saturday 18th September 2010

Despite a shaky start to the weather, the day was a great success and it was good to see so many families participating in the games which had been created by the year 6 girls.  A great deal of imagination had been used in producing some really inspired games that were fun for all the family – so well done girls!

Other attractions included;

  • Tuck shop

  • Cake stall

  • Second hand book and toy stall

  • Tombola

  • Face Painting

  • Nail Painting

  • Hair braiding

  • The grand raffle

  • And of course the bacon butties and tea-shop.

A total of over £2,353 was raised by the morning.

Bags 2 School (November 2010)

This is the twice yearly collection of unwanted/used clothes and household soft furnishings which are then collected and weighed by an outside company who give a donation to FOSJH based on the weight collected.  So money for old clothes!

Unfortunately we didn’t have as many donations as in previous years, but the opportunity to clear out the cupboards and raise money at the same time was taken up by some families.  It was noted that the lack of empty bags being distributed, a change initiated by the company, may have contributed to the failure to generate as many contributions as previously so for the next collection event on Thursday 5th May, 2011 FOSJH have purchased bags which will be sent home as a useful prompt.

Please don’t include School uniform as this is collected separately for the Nearly New Uniform Sales.

However, £104 was raised.

Junior Disco – February 2011

The annual Junior Disco was held in February and the girls enjoyed dancing to the latest music played by DJ Gavin.  The girls enjoyed  hot dogs and chocolate brownies (as selected by the School Council).

Year 1 and Year 2 Disco

DJ Gavin played the latest music so that girls and boys from Year 1 and 2 who were joined by Year 2 boys from QEGS could dance and play games.  They enjoyed hot dogs and chocolate chip cookies and particularly liked their take home gifts.
