Wakefield Grammar School Foundation has been involved in Independent-State School Partnerships (ISSP) since they were introduced in 1997.
In September 2004 the Foundation embarked upon a major languages ISSP project for gifted and talented children across the city which also included Wakefield Sixth Form College. Although this was initially for 2 years it still continues, albeit unfunded.
The objectives of the partnership are to provide meaningful collaboration between the schools in relation to:
Additionally the partnership develops Maths and Science Masterclasses for pupils wishing to either take separate science GCSEs, Maths and Physics A-levels and Maths and Physics related degrees at university.
The “Wakefield model” has been used as a template for 11 other partnerships throughout the country.
